Meridian conventional augers
Conventional augers have a simple design with just one cylinder. These augers are typically used for loading trucks and for loading the smaller bins (up to 6 tiers – about 27’ for flat-bottom silos). Conventional augers can be self-propelled, with an engine or electric motor, or can be PTO-driven. Augers can be moved or lifted into position manually or can be powered.
Augers are the work horses of grain handling and an auger is the preferred solution by default. Only in conditions where augers cannot be used are belt conveyors used.
Meridian augers have evolved over many decades with multiple design improvements. Depending on hours of use and the level of maintenance, Meridian augers can last 20 years or more.
Augers, by its very design, do pinch the grain between the auger and the cylinder, causing minimal damage to the grain. In situations where no damage to the grain can be tolerated, conveyors are used instead.
In spite of the minimal damage, only augers are used for handling oil seeds. That is because the oil that is squeezed out damages the conveyor belts.
Meridian has the most extensive product-line in the industry for grain handling using augers or conveyors. Most Meridian grain handling equipment is movable, allowing ultimate flexibility in grain handling operations. This includes loading grain into a bin or silo for storage or loading grain into a truck for transportation.
The grains supported by the Meridian augers include cereals, oil seeds & pulses.
