Pilot project
Entity
LT Foods which is a leading exporter of premium basmati rice to North America, Europe and the Middle East. The project is at Daawat Foods in Bari, Madhya Pradesh, 110 km east of Bhopal.
Business or Technology Challenges
High moisture content of harvested paddy and the degradation of the paddy’s physical and microbiological properties due to lack of near-farm storage and drying infrastructure. Also, scientific storage needed for the ageing of basmati paddy.
Our Solutions
In-silo grain drying also called natural air drying that gradually reduces the moisture content of the basmati paddy to the target of 14%. Meridian’s entire focus is on distributed, near-farm storage rather than centralized storage.
Business benefits:
Reduce moisture content from up to 23% to 14% using natural air
Head rice yield of
>42%
Increased physical and microbiological outcomes
Increase in income of farmers and other stakeholders
“DFL sees bulk storage, distributed storage and in-silo grain drying as being critical for agriculture in India,”
Mr. Rajinder Wadhawan, Director DFL.
“While we were pioneers with bulk storage, this pilot will allow us to play a pioneering role in distributed storage and in-silo grain drying, especially with basmati paddy.”
